Sub-Display UX/UI Design for a Foldable Smartphone (Major Payment Service)

Overview
On a foldable smartphone’s sub-display, where screen space is highly constrained,
we were responsible for the UX design that lets users complete payments without stress.
The goal was to deliver faster, more intuitive interactions without compromising the existing app’s experience.
Project
- Client: Major IT Company (Undisclosed)
- Industry: Fintech
- Device: Foldable Smartphone
- Duration: 15 weeks
- Role: UX/UI Design / Research / Prototyping
Challenges
The sub-display offers an extremely limited display area,
which made it hard for users to tell “what they can do next” and “whether an operation has been completed.”
Approach
- Redefining user goals
- Research into competitor and alternative UIs
- User flow design
- Expert review and usability testing
- UX improvement proposals with production release in mind
Outcomes
We improved the operation completion rate and delivered a UI structure that reduces user hesitation.
We showed that, even on a device with tight constraints, it is possible to design an experience that stays consistent with the existing app.
